Page Experience Update (mobile) / Core Web Vitals
Gradual rollout of the page experience signal on mobile, integrating Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS), HTTPS and mobile compatibility.
Key points
- Gradual rollout of the page-experience signal on mobile.
- Incorporates Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS), HTTPS and mobile compatibility.
- Technical user experience becomes a ranking factor.
- Rolled out over several months until late August 2021.
Analysis
The Page Experience Update formalizes a set of user-experience signals, gathered around Core Web Vitals which measure loading speed (LCP), interactivity (FID) and visual stability (CLS). It extends the logic of the Speed Update by structuring it and integrating it with already-established criteria such as HTTPS and mobile adaptation.
Google specified that these signals mainly break ties between content of comparable relevance: they do not replace editorial quality but can make the difference when content is equivalent. For visibility, a polished technical experience also improves the conversion rate and crawling, with lasting indirect effects.
What to do
- Measure LCP, FID/INP and CLS on mobile through Google tools and fix the thresholds in red.
- Prioritize visual stability and speed on high-traffic, high-conversion pages.
- Track the page-experience report in Search Console after each optimization.
Technical user experience becomes a ranking factor. Optimize speed, visual stability and interactivity.
